A WELCOME RECEPTION will be held in your honour where you will receive a complimentary Cape Cod PRINT by a local artist just for coming along. Tonight, dinner is included.
TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 2014: Enjoy an extended continental breakfast this morning at our resort before we leave for a day of adventure! Our local guide will meet us at your resort and will conduct a tour of HYANNIS including the John F. Kennedy Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, Hyannisport and a view of St. Francis Xavier Church, the summer parish of the Kennedy Family. (Please remember that this is an active house of worship and there will be certain times that we cannot enter the sanctuary.) Included this morning is admission on a HYANNIS HARBOR CRUISE. Get to know the local landmarks, popular beaches and other points of interest on your way to the historic Kennedy Compound. Back on dry land there will be free time for lunch and shopping on Main Street.
This afternoon we will travel along scenic ROUTE 6A on your way to SANDWICH – the oldest town on Cape Cod. You will view the Village Green, the Great Salt Marsh, a Cranberry Bog, and Cape Cod Bay. Sandwich became the site of one of America’s largest glass factories, an industry that flourished during the 19th century. This quaint and quiet seaside community is the hometown of Thornton Burgess, naturalist and author of 170 children’s books. Included today is admission to THE SANDWICH GLASS MUSEUM. Enjoy viewing sparkling exhibits that describe the transformation of a small farming community into one of the world’s most respected manufacturers of 19th century glass. Watch molten glass, drawn from the furnace, blown and pressed into exquisite shapes and visit the distinctive museum shop. Dinner is included this evening.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 2014: An extended continental breakfast is included this morning before we board our coach and travel to RHODE ISLAND, the “Ocean State”. Welcome to America’s first resort town – NEWPORT. You will meet your LOCAL GUIDE at the Newport Visitor’s Center. Enjoy a narrated tour that includes the history and lifestyles of some of America’s wealthiest families. Tour the famous Ten Mile Drive, Bellevue Avenue and enjoy admission today to two of the summer “cottages” THE ELMS. The elaborate Classical Revival gardens include terraces displaying marble and bronze sculpture, a park of fine specimen trees and a lavish lower garden featuring marble pavilions, fountains, a sunken garden and carriage house. There will be time for lunch and shopping on your own in the waterfront area. Next admission is included to tour theBREAKERS MANSION. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport’s summer “cottages” and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. After a wonderful day, we’ll depart Newport and travel back to Cape Cod. Dinner is included once again this evening and after dinner you can choose to return to our beachfront hotel or do some shopping at the Cape Cod Mall.
THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2014: An extended continental breakfast is included once again before we meet our local guide for a full day of touring. You will travel historic ROUTE 6A, the Old King’s Highway, a scenic byway winding through centuries of Cape Cod history. It winds past hundreds of historic structures which characterize its early development. View the Eastham Windmill, a Cape Cod Lighthouse and drive through the Cape Cod National Seashore area. Visit the Visitor’s Center. Sand dunes and the ocean surround you as you approach “Land’s End” – PROVINCETOWN. You are now at the extreme tip of Cape Cod. Formerly known as the “Province Lands” the pilgrims landed here first before they decided to settle across the Bay in Plymouth. Explore “P-town” your own way – take a dune ride, visit the Pilgrim Museum or climb to the top of the Provincetown Monument. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with a water view and have fun shopping. Our guide will assist with your plans. Visit and tour the TRURO VINEYARDS. Learn how they have pioneered the art of maritime grape growing, producing wine with intense flavor and lush varietal character. Enjoy a WINE TASTING in the carefully restored 1830’s farmhouse in your very own souvenir glass. You may want to purchase their famous cranberry wine in a lighthouse bottle.
A lobster dinner is included this evening. An alternate entrée will be available for any “landlubbers” not wishing to eat shellfish.
FRIDAY, JUNE 20, 2014: You will be treated to another delicious breakfast before we begin our journey home. Check out and head for home with sand in your shoes, seashells in your pocket and many fond memories of your MCCOY TOUR to CAPE COD!
